Manuel Antonio – Beaches, Wildlife, Adventure Tours

This week we packed up the kids and headed to Manuel Antonio for a mini break. It is a great location for kids with tons of wildlife, a great National Park and some fantastic beaches.

Yesterday we visited the National Park for some family adventures. We saw howler monkeys, white faced monkeys and titi monkeys, sloths, racoons and iguanas. Our children were mesmerized.

Today we are heading to the beach to play in the surf before heading home tomorrow in time to start another great Week of Adventures on Saturday.

Manuel Antonio is one of the destinations we use when creating Custom Tours and honeymoon vacations for our guests. It is also a great add on at the end of a Week of Adventures or Week of Rivers.

Manuel Antonio is blessed with some great hotels and fabulous restaurants, so when booking a Costa Rica Rios tour, ask us about this amazing Costa Rican destination. You won’t be disappointed.

Living in Costa Rica

As owners of Costa Rica Rios we live and work in Costa Rica 365 days a year and what a great place it is to live.

Our two children were born here and are 100% Ticos. Having not grown up bilingual ourselves it never fails to amaze us that we have two wee boys who are equally comfortable in both Spanish and English. Their favorite food is rice and beans and they both go to one of the local schools in our area. With any luck you will one day see them guiding on our Week of Adventures or Week of Rivers trips!

We love the outdoor aspect of living in Costa Rica, and as a family we are always active. We visit volcanoes, rainforests and this week plan to head to one of our favorite beaches in Manuel Antonio. The options are endless.

One of the best parts of living in Costa Rica are the fresh fruit and vegetables. Our little town has a farmers market every Friday and Saturday where you can pick up fantastic locally grown produce at a very reasonable price. Lucy, our chef, is always down there picking out the best produce available for our guided tours. If you have never tried a Costa Rican mango you have never lived!

We love this country and plan to be here for many more years. Come down and visit us and let us show you around.

Pura vida!

Super Guide Davis!

For all of you out there lucky enough to have been on one of our trips in the last 4 years you will have met one of our top guides Deivis Montenegro. We thought it would be nice to give you a quick update on Deivis as he is doing some great things when he is not guiding one of our Week of Adventures or Week of Rivers.

Deivis has represented Costa Rica in the last two world rafting championships. In 2009 he traveled with the national team to Slovakia and then at the end of 2011 the world championships were on home water on our very own Pacuare River. Deivis was an integral member of the team, being chosen to paddle in every discipline throughout the 4 day event. Costa Rica proudly finished 9th out of more than 30 international teams.

Deivis has now turned his attention to triathlons and is training 6 days a week. It is not unusual for him to have completed a 15km run before work! We have also yet to see any of our guests beat him on the uphill sections on our mountain biking day!

We love having such a fantastic athlete on our team at Costa Rica Rios. Deivis is quick to offer tips on everything from biking to paddling and he has been a guest favorite for many years with his easy going nature and love of Costa Rica. Everyone loves Deivis!

Adventure Vacation Week

Another great Week of Adventures in progress as we speak. Today our group (all females this week!), are out rafting on the Pacuare river. The weather is great and the water levels are perfect. We don’t imagine there is a better place to be in the world right now!

10 Reasons to take a Costa Rica Guided Tour

  1. No language barrier:  All our guides and reservations staff speak excellent English (and Spanish, of course) so can help you answer any questions you might have.  They can all share a joke and a laugh as well as giving the necessary safety talks for each adventure activity.
  2. Airport pick-ups:  Sometimes the most difficult thing to negotiate when coming to a foreign country is how to get from the airport to the city center.  Our Costa Rica adventure tour guides will meet you right outside the terminal and whisk you away in the luxury of private transport without you having to wonder if they are going to the right place for the right price.
  3. Local guides with in-depth knowledge of all things Costa Rican; culture, history, flora, fauna and much more.  Our guides will take you off the beaten path and show you the real Costa Rica, help you enjoy the local cuisine and will share their love for this beautiful country.
  4. All inclusive:  Ground transportation by private buses, all accommodations, meals, activities, equipment, entrance fees, and bilingual guides are all included in our Costa Rica Guided Tours.  You just have to get on one of our Costa Rica trips to start the adventure!
  5. Exciting adventures:  Our highly trained guides control all our adventure activities in a safe and friendly environment.  You won’t have to reach into your pockets every time there is an adventure to be had as they are all included in our packages.  Zipline, Canopy, Whitewater Raft, Mountain Bike Volcanoes, Jungle Stay, Surf, Snorkel, Whitewater Kayak, Whitewater Canoe, Wildlife and more.
  6. Unique accommodations:  Being based in Costa Rica helps us keep on top of which hotels are the best to use and which have similar eco-friendly practices for sustainable tourism in Costa Rica.
  7. Meet other travelers:  Join a group tour and meet other like minded adventurous people, share the experiences and make new friends.
  8. Save time:  By choosing a Costa Rica guided tour with Costa Rica Rios, all the necessary arrangements are made for you.  You will not have to spend any of your vacation time planning each day, figuring out where to stay, what to eat or which activities you have time for.  Its already done for you.
  9. Wildlife: Ever seen a sloth in its natural habitat?  On our Week of Adventures tour in Costa Rica you are almost guaranteed to see sloths, monkeys and other exotic creatures and birds in the wild.  Our guides will be able to spot the animals even when they are mostly hidden from plain sight and will be able to give you more information about each species.  Our other tours are also rich in wildlife, so keep your eyes open.
  10. Food:  Each day you will be delighted by the fresh tropical fruit and vegetables, prepared by our chef and guides.  We try to only use seasonal, local produce purchased in our local markets.  You will be served up an appetizing array of local flavors, freshly prepared for each meal.
